Andrew Pike has lived in East Africa for the past 21 years and is interested in sustainable economic development through business, especially large-scale food and commodity production. Over the past four years, he has worked as a trader of cotton and sesame in formerly war-torn Northern Uganda, and with cocoa, vanilla, cinchona bark, and papane in the DRC. He also worked for Panigram Resort in Jessore, Bangladesh, and helped lay the foundations for a locally run for-profit craft village.
At Cornell he runs his own business that sells laptop cases made from traditional African Kitenge material, all made ethically in Northern Uganda. He has also proofread and formatted a book on food security for Professor Barrett.
He is majoring in Applied Economics and Management and minoring in International Agriculture and Rural Development.
He loves to travel, watch live music, and work his two campus jobs: a barrista in The Green Dragon Cafe and a projectionist at the Cornell Cinema.
